What to Expect When Starting Care

Welcome - We're glad you're here!

Starting psychiatric care can feel like a big step. Whether you’ve been thinking about this for a while or you’re reaching out for the first time, we want you to know this: you’re welcome here, just as you are.

Our goal is to offer thoughtful, respectful care in a space where you can feel comfortable, heard, and never rushed.

Let's walk through this together.

Is This Practice a Good Fit?

We work with children, teens & adults who are looking for careful, individualized psychiatric care. Some folks come in feeling overwhelmed or stuck; others just know something isn’t quite right. However you arrive, we’ll meet you there.

Our approach is collaborative and evidence-based, with plenty of room for questions, holistic integration, conversation, and shared decision-making.

If you’re in immediate danger or need urgent help, please call 911 or 988. We do not provide emergency or crisis services.

Getting Scheduled

Click the "Schedule your appointment" button at the top of the page. This will link you to our scheduling platform. Follow the on-screen instructions. Don't forget:

  1. The scheduling portal will ask for your preferred day and time. This is important. Please make sure you select your preference.

  2. You will also be asked to upload a copy of the front and back of your insurance card. This is required for us to be able to verify benefits before your appointment.

What happens next?

Once you submit your scheduling request, you should receive a text confirmation. A member of our office staff will review your information and text/email a link to set up your Patient Portal. This is where you will complete your treatment consents and provide your medical history. This is required to be completed before your appointment request can be approved. Once everything is completed and signed, you will receive confirmation of the appointment date / time you selected. If you did not choose a date or time in your initial request, we will contact you to help you select what works best.

How to Get Ready for Your First Visit

You don't need to have everything all figured out - we promise!

That First Appointment

What That First Appointment Is Like

Your initial visit is a longer, get-to-know-you appointment and usually lasts 60–75 minutes.

We’ll talk about:

  • What’s been going on lately

  • Your mental health and medical history

  • Past treatments - what helped and what didn’t

  • Sleep, stress, and day-to-day life

  • Your support system and strengths

  • What you’re hoping for from care

This is a conversation, not a checklist. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to, and you’re always welcome to ask questions along the way.

Making a Plan Together

After we’ve had time to talk things through, we’ll:

  • Share our thoughts and impressions

  • Talk through treatment options

  • Discuss medications if appropriate (including benefits and side effects)

  • Consider therapy, lifestyle changes, or other supports

Nothing is decided without you. We don’t rush medication decisions, and we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care.

After Your First Visit

Once we get started:

  • Prescriptions (if any) are sent to your pharmacy.

  • Follow-up visits are usually scheduled every 2–6 weeks at first, then spaced out as things stabilize.

  • We’ll check in regularly and make adjustments based on how you’re actually feeling - not just how things “look on paper”.

What's Next?

What to know for after your first session.

What happens after

Follow-Up Visits

Medication follow-up appointments typically last 25–30 minutes and focus on:

  • How you’ve been doing since our last visit

  • What’s helping and what isn’t

  • Side effects or concerns

  • Life changes that may affect your care

  •

Your feedback matters. If something doesn’t feel right, we want to hear about it.

Genetics Consultations

For those who chose to undergo Genetics Testing on their intake appointment will meet again in 2 - 3 weeks for the results. These sessions are typically 60 minutes and focus on:

  • What your brains clinical, chemical picture looks like.

  • Is your brain making the necessary chemicals?

  • Are you moving the chemicals and what does your receptor activity look like?

  • Are you breaking down enough "stress chemicals"?

  • Are you breaking down too much Dopamine?

  • Is your brain producing enough growth hormone to promote mental wellness, focus and memory?

  • How does your body metabolize medications?

  • Discuss medications if appropriate (including benefits and side effects)

  • Consider therapy, lifestyle changes, supplements or other supports.

You need to know what's happening in YOUR brain if you want a better chance of fixing the issue.

ADHD Testing

After the intake, you will be scheduled for ADHD testing. This process takes approximately 60 minutes and focuses on:

  • Subjective data provided by the client or parent.

  • Information provided by teachers (for minors)

  • Clinical screening tools for consistency.

  • Objective measures to determine cognitive flexibility, memory & focus duration.

Information is gathered and processed by the clinician. You will be provided the results of your screening at a separate visit after the clinician has had an opportunity to go over your scores.

The Rest of the Story

We want you to have the information you need to succeed.

Other important information

Telehealth and In-Person Visits

We offer telehealth & in-person visits.

For telehealth:

  • You’ll need to be located in the state of Mississippi or Tennessee.

  • Those taking controlled substances (i.e. Xanax, Clonazepam, Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.) CANNOT participate in Telehealth.

  • Not all insurances cover virtual appointments.

  • A private, quiet space works best

  • A reliable internet connection and video capability are required. There are no refunds for appointments interrupted by poor connection on your end.

If we ever feel an in-person visit would serve you better, we’ll talk that through together.
